Jazz Host Tony Mowod Honored in Pittsburgh, PA April 2001 The Pittsburgh Jazz Society held a testimonial dinner in honor of Tony Mowod at the Westin Convention Center Hotel on April 5, 2001. Over 400 people attended - including government officials and noted celebrities. The honorary committee includes Ray Brown, Judith Turrentine and many other notables. The event raised money for scholarships for young jazz musicians and to create a permanent home for the Pittsburgh Jazz Society, which Mowod founded 14 years ago and serves as president. It's unofficially based at Fosters, in the Holiday Inn Select in Oakland, the scene of its well-attended Sunday Night Jazz Party concerts.
